About
History and Course Ethos
College of Contemporary Therapy was the original organisation set up to provide several diverse therapeutic trainings and events which have included counselling, coaching, chi kung and yoga, hypnotherapy and annual silent retreats.
These emerged out of spiritual meetings and counselling, hypnotherapy, healing and non duality workshops run by founder Blue Marsden in the 1990s. These events were aimed at introducing spirituality and healing methods to counsellors and psychotherapists whilst introducing counselling skills and awareness of themes such as transference and boundaries to holistic healers and health professionals. In 2001 an integrated counselling and holistic therapies program was developed which merged in 2003 into a professional holistic counselling program offered by our main subsidiary Holistic Healing College.
About the course
This is a unique Level 6 contemporary training which aims to link the modern appetite for blending spirituality in its myriad forms with new developments in our understanding of mental health and psychotherapeutic approaches.
In a nutshell this is a very modern and unique psychotherapy training in both the fact that it integrates elements of evidence based methods such as CBT with transpersonal spiritual approaches. It will also be mainly practical and hands on as is our style. However, we will also be weaving in knowledge that is missing in most counselling and psychotherapy trainings such as: an overview on the history of ideas as relates to modern therapy and some basic understanding on the neuroscience of mental health.
Another unique aspect is that we intend to bring the group deeper into an experiential understanding of non duality and how this can be integrated into your practice to help you facilitate deep spiritual awakening and more inner freedom for yourself and clients.
This course was the original vision for HHC but at the time too niche and we did not find this approach suitable for all those drawn to us. With a larger pool of graduates and an emerging shift in interests the time came to offer this follow on Psychotherapy qualification.
